Carine Roitfeld is the next European dame to go under the spotlight for the next installment of my ‘International women series’ (which kinda sounds like a sporting event when you say it like that)

Carine Roitfeld is the french born stylist and best know as the previous Editor in Chief of Paris Vogue (French Vogue). Carine held this prestigious position for 10 years, from 2001 through to January of 2011, when she resigned form the role to pursue personal projects such as the release of her book ‘Irreverent’ and the development and publication of her own magazine, CR Fashion Book. Carine has 2 children, Julia (Model) and Vladimir, the partner of Giovanna Battaglia.

Before taking on the head chief role at Vogue Paris, in 1995, in addition to freelance styling, Carine worked as a consultant to Tom Ford while he was head designer for both Gucci and YSL (1994-2004) in conjunction with her working partner of the time, photographer Mario Testino. Carine was somewhat of a muse for Tom Ford and much of the 70’s sensual vibe that Gucci exudes, is due to her influence. Carine would style the campaigns, while Ford would design and Testino would photograph. Obviously, somewhat of a complete dream team, establishing Gucci as the modern master it is today.

Carine is also known for her incredible style that is now quite synonymous with French Chic. Dark eyes, plenty of black, pencil skirts and sky high heels are her trademarks along with the lavish and opulent parties she is known for regularly throwing, inviting only the A+ fashion listers. Carine is the most super of all the super stylists and has returned to the profession, working on the 2011 and 2012 Chanel campaigns.

To say she has impacted the world of fashion would be an understatement, to say she has part shaped the current world of fashion would be accurate and to say she will preempt tomorrows fashions, would be the best way to describe her influence.
