Merry Oscars Monday peeps! The Hollywood night of nights is here and everyone has , showered, shaved, nipped and tucked in an effort to look their best, and as always there are some who this so well & with so much ease, and then there are some, who well, probably still need a little bit more help, but at the end of the day, everyone has given it their all. Overall, I kinda feel like no one has really gone all out Oscars intensive this year, everyone seems to be pulling it in a bit, going for more understated glamour, which is fine, but maybe a bit dull, no? Anyway, see what you think… lets start with my favs, who I have to say, are probably kind of predictable…
Lupita, obviously, as she was the cutesy beautiful vision everyone expected her to be, in a plunging duck egg blue, custom made Prada gown, accessorised with a dainty headband to reiterate her bright youthful vibe. Im giving her a big old 9/10 here for being on the money in an on trend colour and for a perfect silhouette. My next fav is Em Watson, who looks lightyears away from little Hermoine Grainger in this super sleek metallic combo style dress from Vera Wang. No fuss, just how she likes it, its shimmery sparkly greatness with perfecto makeup and red lip, 9/10. Finally, rounding out my top 3, it has to be J Law doesn’t it, maybe not because her dress is groundbreaking, which it isn’t, but probably because she’s just so great, spectacularly tripping over once again, only this time on the actual red carpet where she was taken out by a witches hat. It just kinda makes you love her even more doesn’t it. So while I say her Christian Dior dress isn’t groundbreaking, it’s still absolutely simple & perfect, sleek in all the right places with a gorgeous drop back necklace, 8/10. So far so good.
Only just missing out on some top honours in my book, are these lasses, who all stun as usual but have all adopted the black theory this year. Kicking us off is our old mate Donna from Neighbours, otherwise known as the new Sharon Stone thanks to that scene in the Wolf of Wall Street, otherwise known as Margot Robbie, who was near snubbed by the red carpet paps, due to her new dark do, as apparently they didn’t recognise her. Duffas. Either way, I loved her Saint Laurent situation (better from the back if I’m being really honest) which was perfectly accompanied by a dark lip and even darker locks, 7.5/10. Next up is Ms Theron who is near impossible to go past when talking about red carpet wins, this year going for a slight plunge and trademark fishtail in beautiful black Dior, 7.5/10. Rounding out the black ladies is good old Annie Haths who loves a good halter and this time found a super sparkly one from the guys at Gucci, beautiful as always, 8/10.
Every year there’s the nude/white/ivory/cream crew, this year, it was led by Cate B, in a textural sparkly dream from Armani Prive, it’s gotta be at least a 7.5/10. The other Kate with a K is next, K Huddo, who seemed to have a lot of twisting fabric going on, in a silvery white Versace caped gown (the cape was later removed, quite possibly, forcibly) 6.5/10. Mrs Timberlake joined the pale peeps and looked phenom in strapless Chanel Couture, sans Mr Timberlake, 8/10, she probably would have got a 9 if JT was with her, but thats ok, she’ll know for next time. And last but not least, Naomi Watts, who shocked onlookers by choosing a white sparkly gown. You see, she is normally well known for ivory, silver or nudes on the red carpet, so it was quite the scandal, when she arrived in something so different. Jokes. Obviously. Beautiful, but plain in Calvin Klein Collection, 7/10.
And then there was the guys who looked lovely and I’m sure spent a lot of money of their frocks, but maybe next time needed just a tad more guidance. I say this from high up on my pedestal, obviously, so Im gonna be super short and sweet about each look. P Cruz, too much fabric, its a bit like a bed ruffle. JP Smith, same deal, it’s kinda like the curtains got tied around the bed post a few too many times. Jen Garner, silvers pretty but you need a bit more colour depth and next time don’t let your mum add those awful straps to your dress. Julie Delpy, you are amazingly beautiful but next time when JLo offers you one of her Zuhair Murad dresses from last year, maybe either get it tailored to you or even just politely decline. Lastly, Anna Kendrick, please don’t pop your leg, it’s so 2 years ago.
So now I think that just about covers everything we need to discuss, at least until the after party pics come through that is. So until then, here’s the rest of the Oscars red carpet for 2014…
